We’re so excited to introduce our new Administrative Officer, Will, who joined the Beacon team this October!
Get to know one of the newest members of our team and email him at firstname.lastname@example.org to say hello.
Welcome to the rare family, Will!
What were you doing before you joined Beacon?
Before joining Beacon, I worked as administrative assistant for Smith May Solicitors, a family and employment law firm based in Cambridge. Within this role I was mainly helping to maintain clients’ files and help the solicitors with their daily tasks. I also took the lead on designing and creating a new website to give them a more modern and up-to-date look.
Why did you choose to join the Beacon team?
I chose to join Beacon after having a look through their website and reading more about their ethos and projects that they are running. I found that I agreed with their main mission and aims and whilst looking for jobs I realised that I wanted to work in the charity sector and in something I believed in. Already having experience in admin, meeting the team and talking to Rick and MayRo about the role and training opportunities provided made it an easy choice to choose Beacon.
What do you want to achieve most at Beacon?
Being the administrative officer, I would like to help everybody on the team achieve their objectives so that Beacon can maximise its ability to support people in the rare disease community. I hope to be able to streamline processes within Beacon, so time-consuming admin jobs are quicker and easier for everyone to complete, especially with the creation and implementation of the new drug repurposing programme REMEDi4ALL that has the backing of the E.U. and various U.K. universities.
What are your hobbies outside of work?
I have recently got into gardening over the summer when I did up the front garden at my parents to turn it into a pollinator friendly garden with foxgloves, Lavender, catmint, Verbenas, Alliums and a few rose plants.
Currently, most weekday evenings are filled with playing videogames, going to the gym, going swimming with my mum and two nieces and watching Manchester Utd.
My weekends usually consist of seeing my girlfriend and trying to meet up with our mates from university which usually means trying to find a drum and bass event to go to.
What’s your favourite TV show and why?
My favourite TV show that I have seen recently is Love, Death and Robots. It is a great collection of Sci-fi stories with every episode having its own unique and usually crazy storyline based in the past, present and future with a Lovecraftian influence to them. Each episode also has its own unique animation style ranging from 2-D animation to photo real 3D, created using cutting edge techniques. And now there are 3 seasons out so there are plenty of episodes for you to go watch!!!
