Can you believe that our rare disease charity is 10 years old?!
It feels like yesterday that Dr. Nick Sireau and Dr. Tony Hall founded Findacure Foundation (now known as Beacon for rare diseases) on 7th November 2012.
It’s been quite the decade, but let us not forget that it all began with a TED Talk from our co-founder Dr Nick Sireau.

Nick gave a TED Talk on his son’s ultra-rare disease, alkaptonuria (also known as AKU or Black Bone Disease) and discussed why he founded Beacon (then known as Findacure) in the first place: to give patient groups the tools they needed to form, grow and professionalise.
Watch Nick’s TED Talk to learn his and our story!
From there, our rare disease charity in Cambridge, UK took off. Check out our 10-year blog to see all of our highlights over the past decade!
