Ike joined Beacon for three weeks as a summer intern during her time at Royal Holloway University London.

As an aspiring scientific writer, Ike was eager to help us by editing and rewriting learning courses for our e-learning portal.

She is delighted that volunteering with us has improved her writing skills, scientific knowledge and professional confidence.

Rhys had just finished his second year as a medical student at Oxford University when he joined us as a summer intern. Tasked with engaging more people in rare diseases and our charity, he had a lightbulb moment: a student essay competition!

Rhys spent the summer turning his idea into a full project and his legacy has lived on: The Student Voice Prize is now a very popular and well-renowned part of our annual calendar!
