If there’s a Will, there’s a way – good luck on your next adventure!

Sep 5, 2025

In August, we said goodbye to our Senior Operations Officer, Will – a huge part of the Beacon team, who we will miss very much.

While we are sad to see him go, we are excited for what the future holds for him and wish him every success in his next chapter.

Read his leaving blog below to learn some of his highlights from the past few years at Beacon!

Can you sum up your time at Beacon for us?

The past nearly three years at Beacon seem to have absolutely flown by.

From the first day in the office, the whole team has been incredibly welcoming, and even though we have had a few changes to the team over the years, that same feeling is still there now.

Beacon has been the best place I have worked at so far in my short career, and I have learnt masses of new skills from the whole team.

Everyone in the team is hard-working and passionate – making everyone a pleasure to work with.

All of this adds up to a work family that has been incredibly supportive through work and personal challenges and is very hard to leave.

When I think back through the last few years, the only memories that come to mind are those filled with good times and laughter.

I think mostly overall I am going to miss the team spirit and office laughs.

What will you be doing after Beacon?

My next role in my career will be keeping me in Cambridge at the World Conservation Monitoring Centre as a programme administrator.

Here I will be working as part of the Nature Economy team – aiming to enable and empower leaders across all sectors of the economy to take action for nature.

What is your highlight/your greatest achievement from your time at Beacon?

My highlights and most proud achievements are always the events I have helped organise and run.

Whether it has been our larger international conferences in tandem with REMEDi4ALL, our showcases promoting the rare disease work in the UK or a smaller academic bootcamp, it is always a buzz to get the rare disease community together.

Knowing that providing these opportunities to collaborate leads to genuine progress made it all the more rewarding.

I would like to end with a big thank you to all the colleagues, trustees, external partners and patient groups that have made it such a pleasure to work here – with a special shout out to Mayro and Rick who have made Beacon one of the best places to work.

Ciao for now, 👋

Will
