New year, new you right?
Well at the very least it’s new for us. We’re pleased to finally announce our new name!
From today, 1st of February 2022, Findacure will become Beacon for rare diseases!
Why we rebranded our rare diseases charity
We have achieved so much since we first began in 2012, but supporting the formation, growth, and development of patient groups has been at the core of everything we do.
We wanted to clarify our mission and vision after 10 years of supporting the rare community. Our charity has grown and changed over the past decade, but our core focus has remained the same: to build a united rare community with patient groups at its heart. It became evident to us that we’ve been working to ensure that no one faces their rare journey alone! This is our vision.
We are here to support patient groups as they navigate their personal rare journey, regardless of what they wish to achieve on it. We are the same team that you’ve come to know but are now rapidly growing to support the community’s needs. Despite the change of name, we have no change of purpose. We are, and have always been, fully dedicated to building a united rare disease community with patient groups at its heart.
This is a “rare” moment in our charity’s history. Our journey has led us to this exciting rebrand. We are thrilled to solidify our vision, mission and role within the rare disease space.
As we prepare for more exciting projects this year, we are excited to have a new identity that truly reflects our work. We hope you like it!

Rebranding process: from Findacure to Beacon
We are firm believers in the power of collaboration, which is why we used a highly collaborative approach when rebranding our charity. We held focus groups with some of the patient organisations we help to discuss the pros and cons of being named Findacure. The group delved into how our name is perceived by others when discussing our charity and work.
Our team took these insights to our Board of Trustees to learn their feelings toward the name. It was after listening to their point of view that we explored changing our name to avoid any cons that were holding our charity back.
We’re thrilled to say that our patient groups, trustees and team were heavily involved in the rebranding process. Our team was consulted throughout the entire process to ensure that their voice and opinions were heard and valued. Our rebrand was led by two world-renowned branding experts who diligently helped us tailor our message and brand to our beneficiaries and stakeholders. It was an experience none of us will forget!
Why did we choose the name Beacon for rare diseases?
We chose the name Beacon for rare diseases because a beacon is a trusted guide when navigating dark and stormy waters. A beacon lights the way forward to find a safe harbor when lost at sea.
We see our rare disease charity as that beacon – guiding, supporting and directing patient groups. A rare diagnosis can be overwhelming, isolating and all-consuming. The diagnostic odyssey can last over five years, which may feel like being lost at sea.
Beacon for rare diseases exists to be that light that walks beside you every step of the way; a warm, comforting friend. Our rare diseases charity offers direction and a clear path forward for all those who engage with us. We want to see the day when no one faces their rare journey alone.
