#RareShowcase22 begins in
After three years away, we are delighted to announce the return of our long-awaited Cambridge Rare Disease Showcase!
The Rare Disease Showcase is an event series that celebrates the innovative rare disease projects taking place across the UK and wider world.
Our Showcases bring patient groups, industry, researchers, students and healthcare professionals together. By sharing the experiences, work, research and expertise of all stakeholders, we are creating an unstoppable movement that brings real change to those living with rare diseases.
The Cambridge Rare Disease Showcase is an event unique in nature. Alongside ample networking opportunities and complimentary food and refreshments, you’ll have the chance to hear first-hand rare disease stories proposed and presented by you, our delegates.
We invite you to join us – in person – to connect with the community and ensure no one walks their rare journey alone.
What can you expect at the Cambridge Showcase?
The Cambridge Rare Disease Showcase is a relaxed and informal networking evening, taking place in one of the UK’s most prominent scientific hubs.
Key to the event will be opportunities to meet and build relationships with passionate and dedicated members from all sectors of the rare disease community. Alongside this, selected delegates will have the chance to deliver a series of quickfire presentations to their peers, designed to give an insight into the excellent rare disease progress being made in academia, industry, healthcare and patient advocacy.
If that’s not enough, the Cambridge Showcase will also serve as Beacon’s first in-person event in over two years!
We hope you will join us for an evening of stimulating conversation, canapés, and celebration.
“I enjoyed having a spectrum of people to network with and learn from regarding rare diseases and how to support their initiatives”
“I came away from the showcase feeling exhilarated and inspired and look forward to following up with my new connections.”

Share your story
Throughout our showcase, we will hear lightning talks proposed and presented by the delegates themselves. You could be one of them!
What is a lightning talk?
A lightning talk is a micro-presentation that lasts only five minutes. We have been running lightning talk sessions ever since our first Cambridge Showcase in 2015, with each session giving delegates the chance to share their own experiences with the rare disease community.
A good lightning talk condenses a couple of ideas to their essence, inspiring the audience to go searching for more information. Look no further than the lightning talk round at our International Rare Disease Showcase for some great examples of previous talks.
How to apply for a lightning talk
You must register for our showcase to submit a lightning talk proposal. During the registration process, you’ll be invited to indicate your interest in speaking and provide a short summary of your talk.
Calls for proposals will remain open until Monday 6th June.
Our showcase is essential in breaking down barriers between patients, industry, healthcare professionals and researchers. COVID-19 has starved us of opportunities for interaction, but the cross-sector audience and relaxed atmosphere of Beacon’s events fosters collaboration and inspiration at a time when it is most needed.
By partnering with The Cambridge Rare Disease Showcase, you will be providing an opportunity for all members of the rare disease community to meet – in person – and share ideas, making a life changing difference to the millions of patients and families living with rare diseases.
We have a range of partnership packages suitable for every budget, which include opportunities to speak and exhibit. To find out more, get in touch with firstname.lastname@example.org.
