Apply to be a speaker

Interested in speaking?

At The Cambridge Rare Disease Showcase, we believe in the power of diverse voices and innovative ideas. That’s why we highlight stories from a wide range of perspectives and backgrounds.

Throughout #RareShowcase27, you’ll have the opportunity to hear quick-fire presentations – known as lightning talks –  delivered by patient groups, academia, industry and healthcare providers, who’ll share their ideas, progress and achievements in rare diseases.

But here’s the twist – all presentations are submitted directly by the audience!

Sounds great, but what is a lightning talk?

A lightning talk is a micro-presentation that lasts only five minutes. We have been running lightning talk sessions ever since our first Cambridge Showcase in 2015, with each session giving delegates the chance to share their own experiences with the rare disease community.

A good lightning talk condenses a couple of ideas to their essence, inspiring the audience to go searching for more information. Look no further than the lightning talks from previous Cambridge Showcase events for some great examples of successful talks.

We look forward to reading your proposal!

How do I apply for a lightning talk?

All attendees have the opportunity to submit a lightning talk proposal during the registration process. Just tell us what you’d like to speak about, and our expert team will select up to five lucky delegates who reflect the breadth and depth of the rare disease community to present on the night.

Best of luck!

Submitting a lightning talk proposal does not guarantee you a speaking opportunity and you must apply by 11th December to be considered. We will review all proposals after the closing deadline and will be in touch with successful applicants as soon as possible.
