Adiós y mucha suerte, Gabriel! – Goodbye and good luck, Gabriel!

Feb 25, 2026

At the end of February, we said goodbye to our Senior Projects Officer, Gabriel.

Gabriel has been an integral part of the Beacon team since 2024, joining us after moving across the Atlantic from the Canary Islands and completing his degree at the University of Edinburgh.

In his role, Gabriel contributed to every aspect of Beacon’s work, from drug repurposing to patient group training, approaching each project with exceptional efficiency, thoughtfulness and care.

His impact has been felt not only across the organisation, but also within the rare disease community we serve.

A supportive and fun member of the team, we are all very sad to see Gabriel go, but we know he is on his way to more great things…and not that far away!

Read Gabriel’s leaving blog to hear more about his favourite memories and experiences at Beacon.

No es un adiós, es un hasta luego!

(It’s not a goodbye, it’s a see you later!)

Can you sum up your time at Beacon for us?

I joined Beacon in May 2024 and have had such a wonderful time!

I feel very lucky to have had a taste of so many different areas of the organisation and to have learnt from and worked closely with so many people across the team.

In my first few months, I focused mainly on science projects, including supporting the development of the Digital Academy, a truly rewarding and collaborative experience.

After that, I had the pleasure to work on a range of projects with the patient group community more closely, through organising webinars and masterclasses, or helping co-organise the International Drug Repurposing Conference, one of the best events I’ve ever been to (hopefully I’m not biased!).

I then focused on writing and reviewing courses for the Resources Hub, which was again a great opportunity to keep developing my skills and expanding my expertise.

What will you be doing after Beacon?

I’ll be moving to London to start a new role as an Analyst at a medical consultancy.

I’m actually very excited about this new life opportunity and to keep learning and growing as a person in a new city!

What is your highlight from your time at Beacon?

There are actually many projects I’ve felt proud to be part of, but what I’ll remember the most is the experience itself!

Beacon was my first “proper” job after university, and it’s been an environment where I’ve learnt a lot about myself and others.

I’m especially proud of the relationships I’ve built and the exceptional people I’ve had the chance to work with. That’s what’s made this experience so meaningful for me, and I consider that the biggest highlight I will always remember 🙂
