We’re so excited to introduce Gabriel our new Projects Officer, who joined the Beacon team this May.
Get to know one of the newest members of our team and email him at gabriel@rarebeacon.org to say hello.
Welcome to the rare family, Gabriel!
What were you doing before you joined Beacon?
Before joining Beacon, I studied Biology (Immunology) at the University of Edinburgh.
After graduating, I started working in hospitality and volunteered in a charity connecting people with Scleroderma, a rare autoimmune disease.

Why did you choose to join the Beacon team?

I’ve always been passionate about healthcare and helping people.
Beacon for Rare Diseases is the perfect environment to keep learning, growing, creating genuine connections and contributing meaningfully to the lives on people and families living with rare diseases.
What do you want to achieve most at Beacon?
At Beacon, I’m excited to keep developing both personally and professionally alongside an exceptional team, while connecting with people with different backgrounds and experience.
Together, I expect to drive positive change in the rare disease community, first by working to increase treatment availability through our drug repurposing programme, and second by strengthening and growing the rare disease community as a supportive environment.

What are your hobbies outside of work?

Outside of work, I love keeping active, especially by working out and dancing bachata, as well as spending time outdoors with friends.
When at home, I love cooking and having people over for dinner!
What’s your favourite book/film/TV show and why?
This is always a hard one to answer, as I feel it changes every week!
I don’t have a favourite, but I love reading self-help psychology books on how to understand your mind, emotions and relationships better in order to be a better human being.
My favourite is called ‘Find your Vitamin Person’, by Marian Rojas Estapé, but I think it’s only available in Spanish for now.
And that’s a wrap!
We hope you enjoyed getting to know a little more about one of our newest Beaconites, Gabriel.
Remember to email him to say hello and join us in welcoming Gabriel to the rare family!
