This week’s blog was written by our Projects Officer, Gabriel!
Earlier this month our Science Team went to Budapest for the REMEDi4ALL General Annual Meeting (GAM).
Gabriel gives us a rundown on the highlights, discussions and the exciting progress being made.

After working as part of the REMEDi4ALL consortium for five months alongside dozens of people from 24 EU organisations, I was really excited to travel to Budapest for our General Annual Meeting (GAM), a key event we celebrate each year.
At REMEDi4ALL, we are building an innovative platform to support high-impact, patient-centric, drug repurposing projects. By doing so, we are fostering a global movement – creating a community that not only shapes policies and advances patient-focused drug repurposing, but also facilitates collaboration and knowledge exchange on an international scale.

During the GAM, REMEDi4ALL partners discussed their progress, achievements, and the challenges faced in their respective projects, always maintaining a collaborative, solution-oriented approach.
At Beacon, we shared updates on the clinical trials we’ve been actively involved in, as well as the training programmes we’ve developed and are currently building to support patient organisations, researchers, and industry partners throughout their drug repurposing journeys – from concept to market.

Personally, presenting at the GAM was both inspiring and motivating, especially after hearing about the diverse projects, hopes, accomplishments, and future plans from our partners.
Yet, the most meaningful highlight for me was the opportunity to form deeper human connections with others.
While collaborating via Zoom is an efficient way to bring people together from across the globe, in a fast-paced, tech-driven world where digital tools often replace in-person interactions, nothing compares to the energy, creativity, and momentum generated when people gather in the same space, united by a shared goal.
The simple act of shaking hands, hugging a friend you’ve only known virtually, sharing a microphone, and feeling the collective focus of a room aligned towards the same objective, was incredibly refreshing. It was a powerful reminder of the irreplaceable value of genuine human connection.
After the GAM, I not only feel fortunate to be part of this project, but also deeply grateful to be part of a movement driven by such inspiring individuals.
Their energy and motivation to connect, collaborate, and drive real change reminds me of the incredible power we have when passionate people come together with a shared purpose!

Register for #iDR25!
This event will take place in Amsterdam on the 7th – 8th May 2025. Bringing together stakeholders from across the rare disease and repurposing community, you don’t want to miss out on this exciting opportunity!
This event is co-organised by Beacon and REMEDi4ALL.

Thank you to Gabriel for writing this blog, we hope you enjoyed learning about the GAM and the work Beacon does in collaboration with REMEDi4ALL!
